Never got around to posting my thermometer from the other day. Fortunately today it only registers 100 on the nose (and it’s in the shade). But check out the reading from 2 days ago…..

+100 on the thermometer

See, it was toasty here. Unfortunately the Airstream’s AC can only change the inside temp by 20 - 25 degrees. So, it’s been uncomfortable even inside at times. Fortunately today we’re only seeing 100. Ah, cooler in the Airstream for sure!

Rude surprise this morning

5:30 I was up and going. Jumped out of bed and headed to the kitchen sink to pour some water and take the allergy medications….. and I ran into the strongest spider web with my shin. It was almost like wire it was so tough. I snapped one strand, and the other held. I backed up, looked to my left along my closet, and found the owner of the web. A jet black spider. It was attempting to hide.

Of course, I did do away with the spider. It looked a little spooky. After ensuring it was no longer in the world of the living I turned it over and found the red on the underside. My spider was in fact a black widow. And it was in the Airstream! Woah!

Hopefully that was my first & last encounter with a black widow. But hey, they’re really out here.

My own personal rain dance

Monsoons should be starting soon. Yesterday the skies darkened, threatening clouds filled in over Point of Rocks….and nothing happened. So close, yet so far.

In order to hasten the arrival of the monsoons I took matters into my own hands this morning. I brought the Nissan down to the local car wash and had it washed and waxed.

With the Titan looking this good it has to rain!

While waiting on the truck to be washed I met a pleasant couple from CA.  They had a pair of Labradoodles with them.  Brother and sister pups, only a year old.  I knew what they were right away.  I’ve been thinking about one down the road.  Still miss my girls.  But I know I’m allergic.  I pet so many dogs, and if I spend too much time with them the eyes go puffy and red.  Apparently with a labradoodle allergies aren’t an issue……  and they’re very cute too!

With it being cooler today I’ve decided to take a little drive over to Skull Valley again.  Just for a look around, and maybe a few photos!

  1. I awoke this morning and faced down Death…I did what any red-blooded American male with an Airstream would do…I squished Death flat with a shoe, and took it’s prone body outside with a paper towel…

You’re a very brave man…actually, a very lucky one, because black widows are usually REALLY good at hiding, and take some luck to kill (they pick really good places to escape to)

Thanks for the washing of the car to insure rain as well

  2. OMG - I HATE black widows. I’m so glad you found her and killed her, I will have a nightmare about it tonight!

The Labradoodle is EXACTLY the dog my mom is looking for (’course she can’t get one until I get home from Greece — she’s babysitting for me and my dog won’t like a new dog, ha ha!) Did that couple mention where they got theirs?

  3. Paula,

No further widow sightings this morning, although I’m checking every nook and cranny!

The couple got their doodles out of a breeder in FL. There are many breeders, prices ranging from $1800 to $2500. Found one yesterday in Tucson that has several litters that will be ready to go in August.

No go for me though. Job first, settled in, then a happy puppy. Been missing Dana and Madison a lot though, and I’d like an allergen free dog.
