Yesterday was a pretty tame day. Some driving, some photos, and searching for a spot to hike. Thanks for the recent comments on areas to look into. :)  During my travels yesterday I finally got a few interesting photos of Pike’s Peak!  About time!!!

img_5645.JPGEverywhere you look around the area is a “scenic view”.  Not too hard to take a nice photo of the area.  :)  But I thought it would be nice to take a hike, and see if I couldn’t find an even more scenic view!

My neighbors were kind enough to suggest checking out The Crags.  They’re an interesting rock formation near Pike’s Peak, and the trail leads to the peak if you’d like to hike up to 14,000 feet.

The drive out to Crag Campground was a pleasant one.  Not too far.  Unfortunately when I arrived at the road for Crag Campground I found several road construction signs.  Basically the road was closed last week, and closed again this week.  My hike was thwarted!  Guess I’ll have to wait until next week.

Fortunately I had several other suggestions on places to visit and photograph.  Each location was visited, a few photos snapped, and finally I headed back to the Airstream.

Mid-afternoon I took a ride back down to Colorado Springs.  Simple mission.  Pop by Wal-Mart and pick up some more of my favorite rice (terayaki).  Sadly, none was available at the local Safeway.  And I found out that it wasn’t available at Wal-Mart either.  Hmmmm.  Missing my Fry’s!  :)

Overall, dull day.  I’m in the waiting mode on the job decision.  Hopefully I’ll hear something today or tomorrow…..

  1. Oh wonderful…it really is hard to take a bad photo there, so very scenic everywhere you look. Plus, you are a good photographer, so that helps a bit right?

Rats-Bats about the construction, and the rice (the bacon too) and the spotty cell phone coverage…maybe you should open a Fry’s? Thwarted once again~Crazy CO!

  2. Absolutely beautiful. I live vicariously through you, my friend. I love Florida but we have no views like that. Have an amazing day:)

  3. I only have a moment but wanted to let you know that you might be able to find your rice at King Soopers. It’s the AZ “version” of Fry’s. You’ll also be able to use your Fry’s shopper card there as well…although you might get a funny look from the cashier. I use my KS card here in Prescott but they look at me like I’m nuts. Of course, that’s a completely different topic all together…

  4. Repair work on the Crags is supposed to be wrapped up Friday. During construction, they were going to be letting people through at around 10, 12:30, and 3:00. Note too that the trail to the peak diverges from the Crag’s trail only a few hundred yards in (you’ll see a log bridge over a small creek on your right, that’s it).

The local City Market grocery store chain is owned by King Soopers, so based on what Dina said you might want to check that place as a closer option (intersection of 67 & 24).

  5. Matt,

Hey, thanks for all the great information. :) Today I’ll know if this will be my new home or not. The Colorado job will be telling me one way or another. If it’s a yes, stay in the Airstream a few more months while I house hunt. Gotta find a place next to a nice trail! :)

Thanks again. Checking out your site now.
