The past few days have brought quite a change here. Morning temperatures have dramatically dropped, the afternoons have stopped being oppressive, and some interesting winds have started up once again.
This morning I found myself actually cold waking up. I’ve left the heat off in the Airstream, and found myself walking around barefoot on 55 degree floors today. Wooooh! What a wakeup today!
Not complaining though.
When I went out climbing on Sunday I found myself thinking of New England. As I set up in Granite Basin there was a strong wind blowing through the trees. The temperature was just right, and after setting up I leaned back against a rock formation and listened to the wind. It made me think back to Fall in New Hampshire.
It’s funny how temperature and sound can make you recall so much from other moments in your life. The wind and the cool temperatures have me wondering what it’s like in the North Country right now. I bet the moose are fully into rut, an extra chill has started up in Pittsburg, NH., and people are getting their last hikes in for the season.
In my case, the last hikes aren’t even close. This is the right time of year here in Arizona. Leaves aren’t blowing around, the afternoons are still warm, and blue skies abound. Bob will be returning soon, and we’ll climb more again. No, Fall isn’t heralding the need to stay inside and near a wood stove here. Rather Fall in Arizona is the perfect time for all those outdoor activities you don’t want to do at 100 degrees (or higher).
So, in one way, feeling a little homesick once more. And in another way, looking forward to seeing what the season’s change really means in Prescott, AZ.

Gheez Rich, I feel homesick this time of year too…and I’m living in the place I grew up…maybe it’s a case of nostalgia? (I’m thinking meat pie would fix that right up
)
The Fall here is just marvelous…and watching the leaves change in Oak Creek is wonderful too, although, probably not as breathtaking as where you’re from, but then again, we don’t have all the moose…just the mountain lions. You’re going to love how mild the days stay…perfect for all the outdoors stuff, just turn on the heat and get a pair of warmy slippers for the mornings…
Meat pie, Virginia Ham, potatoes au gratin (can’t have that any more), bacon wrapped turkey (can’t have that either)……ah, so many nostalgic things. Let’s not even mention the smell of wood smoke rolling out of the chimney especially when birch or maple gets tossed into the wood stove!
Great moose pics!!!!!
There’s Lois! Thanks on the moose photos. I miss my moose!
Hey, how’s that shiny new Airstream of yours? Should I tell Point of Rocks RV park to open a space up for you guys???
Nice to see an area that has fall! Here in Florida, it just goes from summer, to well… summer…. okay, we do have winter, all four or five days of it!
We’re lucky if we have days that go below 50!
Soon. By the way, I LOVE the trella! It’s so easy to live in!
As soon as we get time off to *really* travel, I’ll come knocking on your door, hon! :-D)
