The changing look of the Granite Dells
Posted by: Rich in Digital Photography, Photo of the Day
Well, actually, the Dells look pretty much the same. What’s eye catching at the moment is actually Watson Lake.
Prescott has in fact received some precipitation over the past few months. A fair amount actually, and it’s showing through here and there. But for a traveler rolling up route 89, Watson Lake and the Granite Dells cry out, “Water has indeed made it here!”
Last summer the lack of water was noticeable everywhere. Brown grass lands, fire warnings, dried tumbleweeds doing their thing (tumbling). Personally, I got a new idea of what the word parched meant. And the lack of precipitation was extremely noticeable at Watson Lake.
See, the water lines are clearly visible on the rocks of the Granite Dells. The rocks and cliffs above the water have a somewhat tan coloring. The parts below the water, when exposed are the standard gray granite I was accustomed to back in New Hampshire. And the gray areas stretched several feet down to the water.
Today, no gray lines at all. Only tan. Want to see what it looked like last March? Well, click away!
