Mail call……..again

Ah, another post about getting things in the mail……
No gang, no further tickets to speak of. No photos of me happily thinking I’m doing the speed limit while rolling through a speed trap. Today’s mail call is mostly positive…..mostly……
Getting home today I was downright excited. Packages were scheduled to arrive today. Well, only one package was officially scheduled for today (thanks to 2 day UPS delivery). But another package was expected as well. That’s where the real excitement was!
I popped by the office on my way back to the Airstream, and sure enough, there were two boxes for me. One via US Mail, one via UPS. But there should have been one more…..the one I was counting on……alas, it was not there.
Have you ever had a craving for a certain food? A favorite treat maybe? You know what I’m talking about! That special something that gets your taste buds in an uproar days in advance of getting it? Well, the missing package has my special treat…..and it’s currently in limbo. So, I had some Jelly Bellies instead.
At the start of the week I placed a call to Vermont. Specifically, I placed an all important call to the Vermont Beef Jerky Company. See, I’ve been all over the country. I’ve sampled beef jerky across the U.S. And you know what? Nothing compares to the Vermont Beef Jerky Company’s jerky.
Heck, Sedona has a store named the, “World of Jerky,” and nothing there holds a candle to the Vermont Beef Jerky Company.
I’ve shopped my favorite treat around to friends here, and they’ve all agreed, best they’ve ever had. When I contracted for US Cellular in VA and WV the locals tried it, and began ordering from Vermont. Everyone who’s tried it agrees….and everything else disappoints after you’ve tried it.
Currently, at some UPS stop, my beef jerky waits……..and I won’t see it all weekend!
So, 2 out of 3 packages arrived. Where did the other packages come from? My family in New England sent along one package. It contained some mail that needed to catch up to me, and a few little treats, including an old favorite. Coffee syrup. You mix it with milk (I can’t have milk). I’m trying to figure out if it will fly with Soy Milk. We’ll see. But I loved the stuff when I was a kid, and I sure would like that trip down memory lane….we’ll see how it goes.
The second package came from New York, New York. I’m sure you’re humming that tune in your head right now!
BHPhotoVideo sent me package number 2. I’ve been experimenting a lot lately, and branching out further. In a recent read I became captivated by Canon’s 580 EX Speedlight. Not only is it a super cool flash, but it can control other flashes via a wireless connection (like the 430 for instance). There are so many ways to work with the flash, well, I couldn’t help myself!
There were a few other items from BH as well. But the flash was the “big ticket item” in that UPS box. And I’ve already experimented with it a good deal tonight. More will follow for sure.
But in the end, while happy to receive two out of three, I’m still a little let down. My entire ride home I was getting ready to get a little sick on jerky tonight! Overindulge, just a tad. And you know how we all react at the thought of a salty snack…. Well, it’s been hard to find anything to snack tonight that can deal with this craving.
Please kind UPS driver, be good to my VT Beef Jerky treats, and get them here as soon as you can! And no sampling! Order your own!

I like the 430/580’s, but the only thing that I don’t like about the Speedlites is the fact that they have a plastic hot shoe foot. I love how they’re easy to operate, they last a long time on batteries (I use rechargables), and I love how I can set up one of my 430’s on my camera, mostly to disable my built-in flash and bounce the light away, and then set up the other two 430’s to neutralze the background in my portable studio. They work really well together. I have flash cables, but I don’t need to use them, unless I absolutely MUST have all of my flashes go off at the exact same instant. The built-in wireless is great!
Are you sure you won’t share your jerky?? Or at least the Jelly Bellies?
say it with me… “Hi, my name is Rich and I’m a jerky addict.”
How do you control the other 430s with a 430 on the camera. I thought it only worked in slave mode and couldn’t control anything wireless, only be controlled? I got the 580 in order to make sure it could operate in a master roll, so it could control a 430.
Hope your jerky comes soon.
The Honeyman on Montezuma has some great beef jerky. They keep it by the register. It’s made fresh and it’s pretty good! I’m not a connoisseur but I have been eating beef jerky since I was a kid. I hope you find it to your liking! Good Luck!
Ah, I’ll have to check their jerky out today. I’ll be heading downtown a little later, so a stop off will occur. Gotta deal with the craving. Still, can’t wait for the VT Jerky!
Isn’t it fun to receive treasures by mail? I know what you mean about those cravings…I’m always ordering food on the net! Gonna have to try that coffee syrup. Sounds great!
Jelly bellys? Love the black licorice and jalapeno ones… hate hate hate the popcorn ones
Hope the jerky arrives soon…and uneaten!
;-D)
