borrego-6.jpgThis morning I’ve been uploading trip shots to Flickr.  :)  What’s my Flickr address?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/gadgetat/

I’ll be uploading more over the next few days as I sort the shots and categorize them.  :)  Ah, post processing is so much fun.  Glad I have Lightroom on my computer.  :)

On other notes…..economics once more.  Just a few links for your reading pleasure.

From the New York Post we have an article on why the Fed Chairman should really start worrying.  Interesting to know about the assumptions that go into our labor statistics….isn’t it?

The second article comes from Bloomberg.  The title?  “Bernake Policy to Destroy US Dollar, Faber Says.”   Ominous.  But true as well.  We’re destroying the value of the dollar trying to avoid recession / stagflation.  The more dollars we print, the lower the rates go, the worse the situation will become.  Any economist can tell you this…..

On other notes, I just need to say something about the talk about mortgage bailouts.  I’ve been reading about them too much lately.  Recently Bernake suggested that banks forgive a portion of mortgages that people have if they’re in trouble.  Wow, talk about a bailout.  Didn’t these folks read the documents they signed?  Didn’t they shop around for a mortgage?  Didn’t they plan ahead at all?  And now we’re to forgive the debt, and put it on the backs of taxpayers?  Wow.

I wonder, where is my bailout?  I paid my mortgage on time, had great jobs, good savings, etc.  Then an illness and divorce led me to living out of my Airstream.  I sure would like a home again you know.  Do I get a bailout for a bad couple of years?  I’ll tell you, I’d love to have a bailout.  But my situation is my responsibility, not yours.  So, I’ll continue to bail myself out, and I’ll keep my hands out of your wallet…..

  1. Kudos on taking responsibility and not joining the victim club - my wallet thanks you!

Re: yesterday’s post - If you had continued on to Cortez, I don’t think you would have stayed there long, though you might have ended up in Durango. As for myself, I enjoy seeing familiar sights anew in your photos. I was there years ago and “Press-cut” holds many fond memories.

  2. So, you like Lightroom, eh? ;) It’s a great program. There’s a few improvements I’d like to see in it, but it works for me!

  3. Josh,

I spent time in Durango as well. Nice spot, lofty prices.

Glad your wallet is happy too. :)

    Lynn,

    Yup, Lightroom rocks.

  4. I always appreciate reading what you have to say about the economics of this crazy country. I don’t own a home - and bailing out fools makes me angry - as I also watch my retirement fund losing thousands of dollars over a few weeks time.
I just gotta keep trying to save and hope that as the next five years go by things will turn around… that, or maybe die?
Just kidding… but things sure don’t look good right now. Thanks for the economic updates… you got a good education!

  5. Ya know Gadget, I just want to say you rock! I wish more people were like you!
    :-D)

  6. Rich I don’t know how mortgages were made where you are but here in Florida, if you had a drivers license, and a job of any type you could get one. My neighbors, who have now walked out of theirs, were two 19 year old waitresses at the local Holiday Inn and paid approximately 3 times what the home was worth. There was no way for them to even start to make the payments on this house and so the bank is no left holding the bag. I have no pity on either party. The situation here is pretty grim and the Fed is not helping anyone by lowering the rates or giving out money willy nilly.

  7. Sharon,

So good to see you’ve popped by! Thanks on the econ comments. Tell Charlie, Eric, and the rest of the gang I’m always grateful for what I got while at Rollins. I remember them often, and miss them too. I wouldn’t be me without my time with all of you guys (you included my friend). Does Rollins need a tech professor???? :)

    Lois,

Thanks! Sometimes I don’t feel like I rock. It’s work, always, even when good. :)

    Bill,

Uh, pulse and $5 in your pocket…..$500,000 loan, no trouble. I remember buying my home……I had a limit in my mind. Under $150K. My ex and I qualified for so much more, but when buying we agreed not to go over. Why? So we could save, have the home, and have sane bills. Buying up to the edge is foolish. Too bad most folks think maxing it out is ok. Oh, I have no pity for any of the parties either. All went in eyes wide open.

New Economy my ass (oh, there goes my G rating). You know the last time people spewed New Economy? Read news clips from the 20’s and then talk to me. If you don’t know history, it will repeat. For the love of all that is good, folks, grab a history book and read it.

By the way….the last time people tried to “print their way out of the situation” (ie. print more money) we ended up with a psychopath starting up a world war…….just saying…….

Ah, interesting things to ponder these days.

  8. Rich,
What Rollins needs is new blood. I’m afraid the profs you had are pretty burned out now. And the new young woman coming in on tenure track next year is a choice many didn’t want… but Rollins’ pay sucks, and we couldn’t get Sarinda, the young prof originally from Thailand. She was so sweet and really cool. She went to Appleton Wisconsin for a TON more money than Rollins would pay her. I’m just slogging along there, biding my time until I can finally quit and retire.
Ya know, I’m gonna be SIXTY in a few months! My grandsons keep me sane. We usually spend at least one day on the weekend with the girls and their boys while their hubbies get time to chill. Bob is great, and we’re doing ok. Just losing a lot in stocks right now, but we gotta hang on and hope they regain some over the next few years.
BOB and I both keep an eye on your blog, Rich. We enjoy knowing what’s up with you and viewing your great photos.
We drop by regularly! I’ll say hello to everyone at Rolly for you. Hugs and all, Sharon
