Weeks ago I got a few favorite photos while hiking in the Promised Land. Cactus flowers. You might remember them.
Well, the flowers are now popping here in Prescott. Reds catch you out of the corner of your eye while hiking along. The cactus are blooming! Even in Point of Rocks.
My neighbor Ed saw me wandering around yesterday morning with my camera strapped around my neck. I was out looking for something interesting to take a picture of. I’ve been so busy that my cameras have felt neglected! Ed pointed out that there was an interesting cluster of flowers near our friend Lars’ trailer. He was RIGHT!
I definitely picked the wrong time for lighting. Most of my shots were into the sun. If I shot from the other side you wouldn’t see the flowers well. I’ll have to check back over the next few days and see if I can’t get a few more photos.
There’s an interesting issue when trying to do macro shots of cactus. You keep getting closer for that perfect photo. And while your doing that you’re getting closer to coming away with a fistful of spines in your hand. Leaning in for this shot I came very close to becoming a pin cushion! Yikes. Glad I backed away!
Time to get ready for the day. I’ll take the camera back out this morning and try to get some better versions of these flowers. Tomorrow I’ll update, provided I don’t tilt into the cactus spines!

Well, what do you expect? SHOOTING cactus? Poor things…they can hardly defend themselves…The pictures turned out lovely though…even if you’re a human pincushion…I could use one of those the next time I sew however…

Thanks for the compliments on the shots.
I’ve found several more clusters that I’ll take a few shots of this morning. The high desert sure can be a colorful place!
