Over the past few months I’ve received several strange calls.  Blocked caller ID, unknown IDs, etc.  And I’m clear on what those numbers are 90% of the time.

Wireless consulting companies.

I’m also getting a good deal of e-mail regarding potential contracts.  The latest is a Transport Engineering position (Backhaul).  I used to do that.  My first job at Sprint PCS.  So, that would be a good gig, right?  Sure it would.

There’s one problem though.  I can’t understand the “recruiters” at all.  I can’t read their job descriptions either.  Has something gone wrong with my brain?  Can I no longer comprehend telecommunications terminology?  Did I get hit in the head with something?

No on all counts.

I can’t understand the recruiters because the recruiting companies are having folks call me from India.  And let me tell you, the people calling me and writing me can’t use the English language at any level.  Over the past 2 days I’ve been called by 3 different recruiting companies regarding the Transport role.  All 3 of the callers were nearly unintelligible!  In my frustration I’ve asked each recruiter to e-mail the job description.

The job descriptions are no better than the phone conversations.  Seriously, each sentence that was uttered on the phone led to me saying, “I didn’t understand anything you just said, repeat yourself slowly.”  Well, guess it wasn’t just how they articulate themselves.  The e-mails were jumbles of words that barely pass as a sentence.

Normally wireless carriers include a description packet for recruiters they work with.  The 3 companies I’ve spoken with have not had such a document available, so they’ve written their own.  If I can’t understand them, what’s the likelihood that I’ll be able to resolve pay issues, get support, etc.

Too bad.  The job has potential if it’s really Transport work.  But since I haven’t had a clear description, conversation, etc., how can I ask a company to represent me?  Hmmmmm……
